ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project involved enhancing the user experience for three prominent UK-based wedding registry platforms: The Wedding Shop, Prezola, and The Wedding Present Company. These platforms offer couples the ability to create personalized wedding gift lists, combining products, experiences, and funds. The goal was to streamline the user journeys for both couples setting up their registries and guests purchasing gifts, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience across all three platforms

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The user journeys across Cambium’s registry platforms presented key challenges for both core user groups: couples and their guests. For couples, setting up a registry was often complex and time-consuming, with limited flexibility to personalize gift lists. Many struggled to manage guest contributions or track what had been purchased, resulting in confusion and stress during what should be a joyful planning process.

For guests, the experience was equally frustrating. Finding a couple’s registry was not always straightforward, and unclear instructions on how to purchase or contribute to gifts often led to drop-offs. Most importantly, there was little to no feedback after completing a transaction, which left users unsure whether their purchase had gone through — a critical flaw when gifting for meaningful occasions like weddings

DESIGN STRATEGY

We began by applying a user-centered design approach, conducting interviews and usability tests with both couples and guests to understand pain points from both ends of the experience. These sessions revealed emotional blockers as much as practical ones — such as uncertainty, mental load, and lack of feedback.

Based on our findings, we redesigned both the registry creation flow and the gift-purchasing journey to reduce steps and cognitive friction. For couples, we prioritized ease of use and customization; for guests, the goal was clarity and reassurance at every stage.

We also introduced more robust personalization features, allowing couples to tell their story through images, messages, and curated gift categories. Finally, all designs were created with responsive behavior in mind, ensuring seamless usability across devices — a must for modern wedding guests often browsing on mobile.

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS

For couples, we built an intuitive dashboard where they could manage every aspect of their registry — from tracking contributions to communicating with guests. They could now add not only products, but also experiences and cash funds, all organized in custom categories and enhanced with personal content like photos and notes.

For guests, we created a simplified registry search and a fully guided purchase flow. Each step was clearly explained, with real-time feedback and a secure, multi-option checkout process that removed guesswork entirely.

The changes not only reduced confusion but made the process feel special — emphasizing joy, clarity, and ease on both sides of the experience.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

The platform saw a marked increase in user satisfaction and engagement. Couples felt empowered by the flexibility and ease of setup, while guests reported a smoother, more trustworthy gifting experience. Improved usability translated directly into measurable results. Gift purchases and contributions increased, thanks to the more intuitive interface and helpful feedback loops. We also received positive feedback from users, with many praising how easy it was to both build and use a registry — something they previously considered a hassle.

From a business perspective, the design system we implemented is scalable and adaptable — allowing the platform to grow with new features and services without reinventing the user experience every time.
